Open kitchen concept part 2 – cost, location, and things to note
According to some interior designers interviewed, the decoration cost of an open kitchen ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 dollars, depending on the size of the house.
Interestingly, although the open kitchen makes the house look more spacious, it actually takes up more space than the closed kitchen. That is because the open kitchen actually needs more space. It needs space on the left and right sides for people to move smoothly.
Many people will require the open kitchen to integrate into the island, and space must be left around the island as a walkway, which will take up a lot of space compared to the bar counter against the wall, but it will feel more spacious.
Some people think that close to the door of the kitchen is not good for Feng Shui, but architect’s design is more coming from the purpose of convenience for the people in the house.
In the past, kitchens are usually equipped with garbage tanks. Hence kitchens are often located near the garbage tanks which is at the rear of the house. In contrast to the old design, now residents on each floor usually share the garbage tanks located outside the unit. It is better for kitchens to be located near the door for residents to take out the garbage.
Architects may consider that if the kitchen is in the rear of the house, every day people need to go through the living room to get to the door. In addition, it is more convenient to get the kitchen when we buy groceries and get home.
Things to note for open kitchen
Many families want to design an open kitchen. However, its disadvantages are clear: the fume problem. To solve the open kitchen fume, you should consider the following aspects:
- Choosing a high-quality cooker hood.
The kitchen fume mainly has a certain relationship with the cooker hood, so you should buy a cooker hood. When you can’t choose a cooker hood with poor quality just to save some money. You must choose a range hood with strong suction.
- Choosing smoke-free kitchenware
You need to pay attention to the selection of kitchenware. Choose kitchen appliances such as smoke-free non-stick pans, smokeless pots and induction cookers. They are easy to clean and do not produce lots of oil fume.
